The outlawing of the Indian ghost dance resulted in the Battle of Wounded Knee. This dance was misinterpreted by the federal government as preparation for war. However, the purpose of the dance was to revive the Native American culture and to bring good fortunes for the future.

The Battle of Wounded Knee resulted in a US military victory and devastation for the Native Americans. Hundreds of Native Americans were killed and there continued to be high tensions between Native Americans and the federal government.
