The circunference of a circle is given as:

[tex]C=2\pi r[/tex]

plugging the values we have:

[tex]C=2(3.14)(0.5)=3.14[/tex]

therefore the circumference of the lid is 3.14 in.

b.

The area of a circle is given as:

[tex]A=\pi r^2[/tex]

then:

[tex]A=3.14(0.5)^2=0.785[/tex]

therefore the area of the lid is 0.785 squared inches.
