Find the LCM (least common multiple) of the denominators, and use that as the denominator for the two fractions.

Ex.

[tex]\frac{3}{4} +\frac{2}{3}[/tex]

LCM (3, 4) is 12

[tex]\frac{9}{12} +\frac{8}{12}[/tex]

=[tex]\frac{17}{12}[/tex]
