The expression for beavers is:
Elephants = 3B
B implies Beavers
Beavers = E/3
E is Elephants
And you could say that B is a variable

A variable for the first one would be E for the elephants
a good expression would be 3E = B for beavers and E for elephants
the second one would be A for adult
the first expression could be A and the second could be A - 6
